What is MAAPS?
The MA Program in Applied Professional Studies (MAAPS), founded in 1984, serves adults who wish to enhance their effectiveness as both professionals and leaders and who seek to respond dynamically to changing conditions and expectations at work and in their communities.
Typically, these diverse and dynamic learners include:
those in newly emerging or rapidly changing fields
those who wish to take their fields in new directions
those who wish to integrate several fields into a cohesive program of study
those who wish to enhance their competencies and options for responding to the changing conditions in their lives and work contexts
To address these learning challenges, the Program's innovative curriculum seeks to integrate aspects of the academic experience that are often fragmented:
the classroom and the workplace
theoretical concepts and practical applications
liberal learning and professional expertise
individual projects and collaborative learning
As such, the Program involves students in a process of integrating and applying analysis and synthesis, theory andpractice, personal experience and professional standards, and ideas and action.
How does the Program work?
The MAAPS Program involves four primary themes:
a Learning Plan to guide your Program-designed by and for you.
a Focus Area to expand your Professional Competence-customized to your career goals and learning preferences.
a Liberal Learning Seminar Series to enhance your Personal Development.
a Team to support you in accomplishing your learning objectives.
