Undergraduate Frequently Asked Questions

   1) How does an online course work?

SNL Online courses are open to all SNL students. SNL Online courses are offered in the Blackboard course management system. Each course has a threaded discussion conference in which students are required to participate. You can login to the discussion conference any day of the week and at any time of the day. All courses require that you regularly participate in the discussion conference and complete your assignments according to the course schedule.

   3) When I register for an online course, will I be contacted by my instructor?

Your instructor will contact you via email during the first week of class. Your instructor and the staff at SNL will use the “Preferred” email address listed on Campus Connect to contact you. You are required to make sure you always have the most up to date email address on Campus Connect. If you update your email address on Campus Connect during the middle of a course, it is a good idea to notify your instructor(s).

   5) How do I register for a Proficiency Exam?

Proficiency Exams are available for L4 Academic College, L5 Critical Thinking, L6 Quantitative Reasoning, and S5 Information Technology competencies. Students may only register once for each exam. If you need to cancel or register for an alternative date, you must do so in writing at least 72 hours prior to the exam without being responsible for the fee. Students must pass an exam in the first attempt in order to receive credit. Failing a proficiency exam requires completion of an SNL course to satisfy the competence. Failure to submit the exam on time also means you have to take the course. Exception: The S5 exam can be re-taken if failed but also requires successful completion of work to develop competence prior to re-taking the exam.
